How to export Figma design tokens

Move palette colors into Figma as structured variables for design work.

What the Figma export is for

The Figma export gives designers a structured way to bring palette colors into a design file. Instead of manually copying every HEX value, you can start from a variables file and organize the palette inside your Figma workflow.

What the file contains

The export includes color values arranged as design tokens. Depending on the palette and export settings, the tokens may include light and dark collections or numbered color entries that can be renamed after import.

Importing into Figma

Use your preferred Figma token or variables workflow to import the file. After import, check that each token appears correctly and that the colors match the palette page.

Rename tokens after import

Raw names such as color-1 or color-2 are useful for transfer, but they are not always useful for long-term design systems. Rename important tokens to semantic names such as background, surface, primary, accent, text, border, success, warning, or danger.

Connect tokens to components

Apply the imported tokens to buttons, inputs, cards, navigation, badges, and page backgrounds. This makes the palette easier to update later because components reference tokens instead of fixed colors.
