QR Code Analytics Now Shows City-Level Data and an Interactive World Map

QR Code Generator analytics now include estimated city and region information alongside country-level data, giving users a much clearer picture of where their codes are being scanned. The update also introduces an interactive world map that visualizes global scan distribution at a glance.

Location accuracy improved with multi-source detection

Previously, scans were grouped primarily by country. The new system adds city and region estimates by drawing on multiple trusted geolocation data sources with automatic fallbacks. This approach reduces misattribution errors - such as scans originating in Hungary previously appearing as United Kingdom traffic - while acknowledging that IP-derived location data remains an approximation rather than a precise physical address.

The enhanced detection works across all dynamic QR codes created through the ReadyTools QR Code Generator, applying retroactively to existing codes as well as new ones.

Interactive world map for quick geographic insight

A new world map view lets users see which countries are generating scans without manually comparing individual statistics. The map highlights the strongest locations visually, making it easier to assess global reach for marketing campaigns, printed materials, event signage, product packaging, or business locations. Users can hover or tap for country-level totals and drill down into the detailed breakdown when needed.

Privacy-first architecture unchanged

The expanded analytics were built without collecting additional personal data. Raw IP addresses and raw visitor identifiers are not stored. Instead, visitor and session identifiers are converted into protected cryptographic hashes. Location information is retained only as the IP-based estimate. Referrer data is limited to the website origin rather than the full visited URL. The system does not use browser fingerprinting or session replay, and automated bot traffic is detected and excluded from standard scan analytics to keep results relevant.

Who benefits and how it fits the platform

Marketers running multi-region campaigns can now see which cities drive engagement without exporting raw logs. Event organizers gain a quick view of attendee origins. Businesses with distributed locations can compare footfall patterns across branches. The update integrates directly into the existing analytics dashboard for dynamic URL codes, requiring no configuration changes. Free, Go, Plus, and Max plan subscribers all receive the improved location data and map view within their current scan limits.

What remains the same

Static QR codes - which encode data directly into the pattern - continue to operate without analytics. Dynamic codes retain their existing scan history, device-type breakdown, and the live "Last 30 Minutes" pulse view. The upgrade adds geographic granularity and a visualization layer on top of the current feature set.
