Collapsible headings help long pages stay readable. A heading can become a section control so readers can use Collapse section and Expand section instead of scrolling through every detail.

When to use collapsible headings

Meeting notes with several agenda sections.
Project pages with research, decisions, tasks, and archive sections.
Handbooks where readers only need one policy or process at a time.
Troubleshooting pages with long optional details.

Turn on Collapsible section

Add or select a Heading 1, Heading 2, or Heading 3 block.
Open Block Settings for the heading.
Use Heading level if you need to change between H1, H2, and H3.
Turn on Collapsible section.
Use the heading chevron or the block action Collapse section / Expand section to test it.

Choose the default state

Use Default state to choose whether the section starts Open or Closed. Choose Open for important content people should see immediately. Choose Closed for references, archive notes, or optional details.

Move a collapsible section

Turn on Drag section with heading when you want the heading and its section content to move together. This is useful when reorganizing a long page where each heading owns the content underneath it.

How viewers experience collapsible headings

People without edit access can still expand or collapse sections locally while reading. Their local open or closed state does not mean they can edit the page.

Common mistakes

Using too many closed sections near the top of a page, which can hide important context.
Putting unrelated content under a heading and then moving the section together.
Looking for collapsible behavior outside heading settings. Use Block Settings on Heading 1, Heading 2, or Heading 3.
Forgetting that readers may see a section closed by default if you choose Closed.
