Convert Markdown to Workspace blocks

When you paste Markdown into an editable Workspace block, ReadyTools can show a Markdown detected popover. Use it when you want headings, paragraphs, lists, code blocks, tables, and images to become separate Workspace blocks.

When the Markdown popover appears

The popover appears after you paste content that ReadyTools recognizes as Markdown. It says This content can be converted into Workspace blocks. and shows a short summary before you choose what to do.

Convert pasted Markdown

1. Open a Workspace page where you have edit access.
2. Click inside an editable text block or empty writing area.
3. Paste your Markdown with Ctrl+V on Windows or Cmd+V on Mac.
4. When Markdown detected appears, review the summary chips.
5. Select Convert to blocks.
6. Wait while the button shows Converting....

After conversion, the pasted content becomes normal Workspace content. You can edit the resulting blocks, move them, format them, or open block settings just like blocks created from the slash menu.

Paste Markdown as plain text

Choose Paste as plain text when you want to keep the Markdown characters visible. This is useful for examples, drafts, or notes where the Markdown source matters more than the formatted result.

Choose Cancel or press Escape to close the popover without converting the paste.

What the summary means

Keyboard behavior

• Use Ctrl+V or Cmd+V to paste.
• Use Escape to close the Markdown detected popover.
• After converting, use normal Workspace editing shortcuts to move, duplicate, or remove the created blocks.

Common mistakes

• Pasting into a view-only page. Markdown conversion only appears in editable content.
• Choosing Paste as plain text when you wanted separate Workspace blocks.
• Expecting every pasted link to open the Markdown popover. Regular links can be handled by normal paste behavior.
• Pasting a very large Markdown document in one action. If the import is too large, split it into smaller sections.

Troubleshooting

• If you see Markdown import failed, choose Paste as plain text or try a smaller Markdown document.
• If you see This Markdown document is too large to convert safely., paste the content in smaller sections.
• If the popover does not appear, confirm that you are editing the page and that the pasted content contains Markdown structure.
• If the converted result needs a different layout, convert first and then use Workspace block controls to reorganize it.
