If something looks wrong in Workspace, start with the visible recovery and sync tools: Undo, Redo, the Restore action after certain block deletions, Force Sync, and Reload Page.

Recover recent edits

  • Use Ctrl/Cmd+Z to undo recent edits when you have edit access.
  • Use Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z or Ctrl/Cmd+Y to redo.
  • If you selected blocks by mistake, press Escape to clear the selection before editing again.
  • If you are about to leave the page and Workspace warns about unsaved changes, stay on the page until saving finishes.

Restore multiple deleted blocks

After certain multi-block deletions, Workspace can show a Blocks deleted toast with {count} blocks were deleted. and a Restore button. Select Restore immediately if the deletion was accidental.

Use Restore right away

Restore is designed for recent multi-block deletion. Export important pages before large reorganizations when you need a separate copy.

Use Force Sync

  1. Open the page options menu.
  2. Choose Force Sync.
  3. Wait for the page to finish saving before closing the browser tab or publishing/exporting.

Use Force Sync after restoring content, before publishing a Workspace Site, before exporting a recently edited page, or when another collaborator does not see your latest changes.

When editing is blocked

If Workspace cannot load a document safely, it can block editing and show: The document could not be loaded safely. Editing is blocked to protect the saved content. Reload the page and try again. Use Reload Page rather than forcing edits into a protected state.

Editing is also unavailable when you have Viewer access, when the page is a public Workspace Site, or when you are in a local view-only mode such as View.

Deleted pages

Delete Page warns that deleting a page and all its sub-pages cannot be undone. Export important content before deleting a page. The confirmed Restore action applies to recent multi-block deletions, not deleted pages.

Plan and block limits

Free and Go shared spaces can save up to 1,000 blocks while shared with collaborators. Plus and Max workspaces do not use that 1,000-block shared-space limit. If you reach the limit, reduce blocks, split content into separate pages, or move to a higher plan.

Troubleshooting checklist

  • Confirm you are signed in.
  • Check whether your role is Viewer, Editor, or Admin.
  • Use Force Sync after important edits.
  • Reload with Reload Page if Workspace blocks editing to protect saved content.
  • Export critical pages as Markdown or PDF before large reorganizations.
  • Ask an owner or admin to check Manage Access if a shared page suddenly becomes read-only.

FAQ

How should I protect important content before a big edit? Use Force Sync, then export the page as Markdown or PDF before reorganizing it.

Can I restore a deleted page? The confirmed page deletion dialog says deleting a page and its sub-pages cannot be undone.

Why is editing blocked? You may have Viewer access, be viewing a public snapshot, be in View mode, or Workspace may have blocked editing after a safe-load problem.
