What the Variations section shows

Understand shades, tints, and tones on a Chromo color page.

1 min read105 wordsUpdated May 20, 2026

The Variations section creates related versions of the selected color. These are useful when one base color needs hover states, borders, backgrounds, or muted alternatives.

Variation rows

  • Shades are darker versions of the color.
  • Tints are lighter versions of the color.
  • Tones are softer or more muted versions of the color.

The colors are generated as smooth LCH-based scales, so the steps usually feel visually even instead of jumping too harshly.

Copying

Click an individual swatch to copy one color, or use the copy list action to copy the full row.
