Which file types Vault can preview

Understand inline previews for images, videos, audio, PDFs, and text files.

  • Images show inside the preview modal with zoom controls.
  • Videos show with browser video controls.
  • Audio files show an audio player.
  • PDF files open in an embedded frame.
  • Text, JSON, XML, JavaScript, TypeScript, Markdown, YAML, SQL, and similar files can show syntax-highlighted text previews.
  • Unsupported files show an open or download option instead of inline preview.

Large text previews are limited so the browser does not load too much content into the preview window.

Important

Preview support depends on the file type, browser support, and whether Vault can generate a safe temporary access URL.
