How image compression works before uploading

Use Vault's optional image compression for supported image files.

The upload modal can detect compressible images such as JPEG, PNG, and WebP. These files can be compressed before upload to reduce storage usage.

  • Compressible files can be selected for compression.
  • A compression progress bar appears while compression runs.
  • After compression, Vault can show how much smaller the file became.
  • The compressed version is uploaded instead of the original when available.

Best use

Compress large images when they are meant for web display, profile images, backgrounds, previews, or attachments where exact original quality is not required.
